Consider this a playful, good-natured blog. I’ll poke some fun and share some leadership lessons of course. “OMG, LOL!” I’ll state this out loud sometimes when I’m trying to get people to laugh. I may find myself in a situation where something good has happened – not great or I would not use those acronyms and trivialize the moment. “Boss, I fixed the coffee maker.” “OMG LOL!” I’ll state humorously. It’s my weird sense of humor at work. I do this to loosen people up and create a fun environment. I must take issue with LOL though. Perhaps I’m on a bit of an extended rant with my latest blogs, “Can I Get a Good Number For You,” and “A Template For Good, Clear, Communication.” Don’t worry, I haven’t lost it. It’s not an old man, “this generation…” moment. I just want to have fun with this internet and text slang and offer a leadership lesson or two.

LOL is found mostly in texts and email. I believe it is used inappropriately – not rudely but strangely placed as if someone is trying to fill the awkward silence among a group of people. “I won’t be able to see you this week because my car needs to be repaired and I’m trying to get an appointment LOL.” There is nothing particularly funny about that message. With the use of LOL, is the sender serious or not? Perhaps the sender is trying to communicate frustration over trying to get an appointment to get his or her car repaired. …
