“The US Department of Veterans Affairs is excited to partner with the Veteran Pen Pal Project to offer volunteers another opportunity to connect with a Veteran in need! VA’s Compassionate Contact Corps matches volunteers with Veterans who are reporting loneliness for weekly phone

calls. This program was started in April 2020 and has proven effective in decreasing Veteran loneliness and increasing overall well-being.

Loneliness is a problem that not only affects quality of life, but can also impact clinical conditions like depression, anxiety, memory, and heart

issues. Compassionate Contact Corps volunteers offer a vital service to Veterans by providing friendly conversation and companionship.

You will be matched with one veteran to call once a week. This can be done safely from home using your own phone. There are no clinical

tasks involved-just your friendly and compassionate conversation!”
