“Veterans & Survivors Benefits”
Jane Babcock, Veterans Benefits Educator
Retired SFC, US Army/Army Reserve, 1982-2005.
3rd Generation Army and damn proud of it.
Jane’s first year in the Army was spent at BT & AIT, Crypto Tech (32F).
Then a year in S. Korea and 2 ½ years, having extended for 6 months, traveling to 26 states installing electronic equipment from Air traffic control tour systems to secure voice systems.
Having picked up a job with an underwater acoustical research contractor as their SCIF Maintenance Tech, Shipboard Installer, and navigational Plotter, she transferred to the US Army Reserve. She served in a FEMA support unit just outside Washington DC. Although assigned as a Crypto Tech, she OJT’d as a Radio Operator (31C) due to lack of maintenance work. The unit provided comm support for events such as Hurricane Hugo and the San Francisco Earthquake.
During the rest of her time in service, she picked up 3 more MOS’s and 3 more DD-214’s. She served as an Information Systems Operator (35W) thru the Army Civilian Acquired Skills Program (ACASP) with the 4th RFI School, Fort McCoy, WI, where she also attended the Intel Analysis Course (96B). She then served as a full-time Reserve Recruiter for 3 years before returning to regular Reserve duty for the final 4 years as a Platoon Sergeant with a Maintenance Detachment in Milwaukee WI.
Three years later she saw an ad for County Veterans Service Officer. After finding out what a CVSO does she decided that was what she needed to do. She spent 11.5 years fighting the VA on behalf of Veterans and their Widow(or)s.
Jane will be discussing the VA benefits you or your family are now, or may become, eligible for. Also, she will speak about how to obtain those benefits with the assistance of a free and accredited VSO Rep.
